The Hill Country Cook-Off Association will hold a benefit on Saturday, April 26 to help pay expenses related to a third bone marrow transplant for Elijah De Leon, a six-year-old San Marcos boy diagnosed with leukemia in June.
The all-day “Ride for Life” will feature a bicycle run and rally, fajita cook-off, washer tournament and car show at the Rivercity Range, 3674 Loop 337 in New Braunfels. Money raised during the event will be donated to the De Leon family.
Elijah De Leon was hospitalized in June at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas in Austin and transferred in October to Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio. After two earlier transplants failed, De Leon is preparing to undergo the procedure a third time at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. This time, his father, Zachary Lee De Leon, will be the bone marrow donor.
For information, contact Richard Anzaldua, De Leon’s grandfather, at 512-644-0881 or by email here.
