Carlos Edward Fernandez’s death is the second homicide in less than a month on the city’s gritty east side.

7:12 a.m. TUESDAY, APRIL 15: Kyle police have obtained an arrest warrant for Michael Anthony Trejo, 18, who is wanted for the murder of 23-year-old Carlos Edward Fernandez.

Trejo was detained Monday after a traffic accident in Georgetown. According to Williamson County jail records, Trejo posted $3,500 bond for a controlled substance and a traffic charge, both misdemeanors. He is still in Williamson County’s custody on $500,000 bail set for the Hays County murder charge, jail records state.

Fernandez was found dead in the Bluebonnet Estates trailer park in eastern Kyle at about 2 a.m. Monday when Kyle police and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of gunfire.

KYLE — Kyle police are investigating the homicide of a 23-year-old man found dead this morning in the Bluebonnet Estates mobile home park off Beebee Road.

At 11:06 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to reports that one or more bullets had been fired during a disturbance at the intersection of Fountain Grove Drive and Antelope Hills Drive, city of Kyle spokesperson Jerry Hendrix said. No one reported being injured, but police arrested 18-year-old Christopher Vicuna at about half-past midnight for discharging a firearm and for deadly conduct, a third-degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison.

Less than an hour and a half after Vicuna’s arrest, Kyle police — this time assisted by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office — responded to a second report of gunfire in the neighborhood. In a park area along a small muddy pond, they found the body of Carlos Edward Fernandez, who had been a witness in the earlier investigation that resulted in Vicuna’s arrest, Hendrix said.

No one has been arrested yet in connection with Fernandez’s death. Anyone with information is asked to call the Kyle Police Department at 512-268-3232.

Bluebonnet Estates is almost exactly a mile away from a house on Sunrise Drive where 20-year-old Ulisis Garcia was stabbed to death during a party in early March 23. On April 8, Xavier Harper, a 20-year-old Buda resident, turned himself in at the Travis County jail on the Hays County murder warrant.

Onesimo Alvarado, a 20-year-old Kyle resident, faces two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the melee in which two other men were stabbed.

CORRECTION 10:26 a.m. MONDAY, APRIL 14: Based on inaccurate information provided by the city of Kyle, this story originally misidentified the victim as Carlos Edward Hernandez; he is Carlos Edward Fernandez. Also due to incorrect information provided by the city, the story misidentified the man arrested for deadly conduct as Christopher Vacuna; he is Christopher Vicuna.

  1. Actually, the murder on sunrise was in hays county jurisdiction and not in the city limits of Kyle. Story makes it sound like both murders occurred in the city.
