REDWOOD — Joe Rubio Garcia Jr., 61, of Redwood died on Monday, March 17 in Austin. He was born in Victoria on April 28, 1952 to Joe P. Garcia Sr. and Irene Rubio Garcia.
Garcia worked for Travis Transit as a diesel mechanic for more than 27 years. An active member of St. Joseph’s Mission in Redwood, he taught catechism and confirmation classes and served as choir director.
Garcia is survived by Eloisa Luna Garcia, to whom he was married for 34 years, and their daughter and son-in-law Leticia and Tomas Alvarado, also of Redwood. Joe and Eloisa Garcia had three grandchildren, Lucero, Giovanni and Joaquin.
He is also survived by seven siblings: Sister Mary Julia Flores and her husband, Tony, of Austwell; sister Gloria Cantu and her husband, Juan, of Placedo; sister Dora Cervantes and her husband, Juan, of Tivoli; sister Rose Lee Garcia of Tivoli; sister JoAnn James and her husband, Don, of League City; brother Juan Garcia and his wife, Dolores, of Tivoli; and brother Danny Garcia of Houston.
A recitation of the holy rosary will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22 at St. Joseph’s Mission, 5078 Redwood Road, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. The the Rev. David Tonary will be the celebrant.
Memorial contributions, designated for the School Fuel fund, can be made to First Baptist Church of San Marcos, 325 W. McCarty Lane. Funeral arrangements are made by Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos.Email | Print
