The San Marcos Area League of Women Voters this evening will host contenders and pretenders in next month’s party primaries including Republicans running for Texas Senate, Hays County District Attorney and a Hays County Justice of the Peace seat.

The event starts at 7 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501, E. Hopkins St. Video of the debate will be posted afterward on the San Marcos Mercury.

Invited candidates include:

U.S. Representative, District 21

U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith and his fellow Republican challengers Matt McCall and Michael Smith

U.S. Representative, District 25

Democrats Marco Montoya and Stuart Gourd, who are vying to take on U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, a Republican, in the November general election

Texas Senate, District 25

State Sen. Donna Campbell and her fellow Republican challengers Elisa Chan and Mike Novak

Hays County District Attorney

Republican candidates Lynn Peach and Wesley “Wes” Mau. The victor faces no Democratic Party nominee in November.

Hays County Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, Pl. 2

Republican candidates Peggy Jones and Judy Ann Seim, vying to take on incumbent Margie Hernandez, a Democrat, in the November general election.

Party primary elections will be held Tuesday, March 4.Early voting starts Tuesday, Feb. 18 and runs through Feb. 28.
