STAFF REPORT

An annual reminder of a bygone era, the Greater Randolph Area Trail Riders will return to downtown San Marcos on Monday, Feb. 3.

They are expected to arrive sometime between 11:30 a.m. and noon, escorted by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office. The inside lanes of North LBJ Drive and San Antonio Street around the courthouse square will be closed from about 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The trail riders travel across parts of Hays, Comal, Guadalupe and Bexar counties each year en route to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. They will begin their trek in Kyle then travel to Buda then to San Marcos and the Jon Agee Ranch. From there, they journey through New Braunfels and Schertz on their way to San Antonio. The trip takes about a week.

In San Marcos, the Downtown Association and the Main Street program will host the riders for lunch at restaurants around the Square. Jon and Val Agee will cook their “almost world famous” Dutch oven peach cobbler on the Square.
