STAFF REPORT

The task for the San Marcos High School boys basketball team simultaneously became tougher and easier last Friday night.

The task of making the playoffs became tougher because the Rattlers lost, 77-40, at Converse Judson. The Rattlers now are 1-2 in District 25-5A, tied for fourth place.

At the same time, the task became a little easier because the Rattlers have their road game at Judson out of the way. If form holds, nobody is winning at Judson this year. So, the Rattlers have that loss out of the way, and some other teams don’t.

Judson assumed a modest 14-9 lead through one quarter, then really poured it on for a 39-15 halftime lead. If that weren’t enough, Judson kept the gas on in a 23-12 third quarter for a 62-27 lead.

Jarrett Henderson scored 13 points to lead the Rattlers. Julian Erickson scored 17 for Judson, followed by 14 for Tony Allen.

The Rattlers now are 15-7 overall and 1-2 in the district. Judson is 24-1 and 3-0. The Rockets also are 11-0 at home.

Judson is the district’s first-place team at 3-0, followed by Canyon and Wagner, each at 2-1 (Wagner lost at Judson). The Rattlers and Smithson Valley are tied at 1-2 in fourth place, and New Braunfels is on the bottom at 0-3.

Wagner is coming to San Marcos on Tuesday night (7 p.m.).
