The San Marcos High School girls basketball team endured a tough one in its District 25-5A opener at home last Friday night, a 69-32 loss to San Antonio Wagner.

Wagner followed a 14-6 advantage in the first period with a crushing 22-4 second quarter and carted a 36-10 lead into halftime. Wagner continued its dominance in the third quarter with a 14-8 advantage.

Ashley Ross and Kiana Williams each scored 17 points for Wagner to lead all scorers. Bailey Hill and Raelyn Jackson each scored nine to lead the Rattlers.

The Rattlers now are 10-15 overall and 0-1 in the district. Wagner is 11-10 and 1-0.

The Rattlers will play Tuesday at New Braunfels Canyon (7 p.m.). They will return home Friday against Smithson Valley (7 p.m.).
