After playing in two holiday tournaments, the San Marcos High School basketball team is looking to the District 25-5A season, which will begin on Jan. 10 at Smithson Valley.

The Rattlers are 13-8 overall after winning three of five at the Hays Rebel Classic played Dec. 12-14, then splitting four games at the Akins Eagles Holiday Classic.

San Marcos won its final game of the Akins tournament, defeating Travis, 66-48, on Dec. 27. Rattlers senior Jarrett Henderson led all scorers with 17 points. The Rattlers held a 34-26 lead at halftime and kept building on that.

Henderson leads the Rattlers this season with averages of 14.2 points and 9.7 rebouns. Josh Coleman is second on the team in scoring with 9.7 points per game and leads the team with 6.7 assists per game.

The Rattlers will next play on Jan. 6 at Steele. Their district opener at Smithson Valley will be their first game after that.

The Rattlers will next appear at home on Jan. 14 against New Braunfels. The Rattlers haven’t played in the snake pit since the Rattler Tournament, which ran Nov. 22-23. They defeated Del Valle, 58-50, at home on Dec. 10 and they defeated St. Andrews at home, 60-58, on Dec. 17.
