These dynamic models show how the new Aquarena Springs Drive and Hopkins Street interchanges with Interstate 35 will move traffic.

Construction has begun on a pair of new interchanges where Aquarena Springs Drive (Loop 82) and Hopkins Street (Texas 80) cross under Interstate 35.

The new system of ramps and roadway is designed to relieve the overburdened intersections. Austin-based Dan Williams Co. won the $4.7 million construction contract from the Texas Department of Texas Transportation.

Construction will begin this week on the Aquarena Spring Drive interchange and is expected to be complete in April. Construction on the Hopkins Street interchange will begin when the Aquarena Springs Drive work is complete.

Going to be a pain during construction, but looks like it’ll be well worth it in the end.

is it just me or is anybody else worried about all the accidents that this is going to cause from the mass confusion of which way do I go? I would hope an engineer could come up with something less confusing for the rest of us who are not as smart as an engineer.

Yes Kenny it’s just you.

I’m a little concerned about having traffic crossing opposing traffic all willy nilly. This is not going to end well.

No, Ron, it’s not just you….as a resident of the Autumn Chase Apartments, I’m concerned about being able to exit the complex parking lot and still be able to get to the Southbound Access road of IH35 without having to go all the way down to Thorpe Lane and then circle back or go Northbound approximately a mile out of my way and loop back under the interstate by Butler manufacturing. As best as I can see, both of our exits on Aquarena Springs are going to be a nightmare.

I agree with kenny p is this the best the txdot engineers can come up with. this is totally ridiculous. has this been real world tested? if so where?

Desperate times call for desperate measures. It often happens that when streets become congested some driveways become “right turn only” like what they did to HEB and Walgreens on Hopkins. I for one am sick of not being able to take Aquarena because of the traffic. I hope this works. Wikipedia has a pretty good section on CFI. Plus, with construction started, I doubt there’s much anyone can do.
