The Texas State men’s basketball team couldn’t stop Oral Roberts (ORU) from doing just about whatever it wanted to do offensively Saturday.
As a result, ORU shot an unbeatable 60.4 percent, making 29 of 48 field goal attempts in an 82-65 win at ORU.
The Bobcats, now 0-3, still are looking for their first win under new head coach Danny Kaspar. The Bobcats next will play Wednesday at Southern Methodist (SMU) at 7 p.m.
ORU took early control with a 21-12 lead in the first half. The Bobcats brought it to within 22-20 on jumpers from the lane by Phil Hawkins and Wes Davis, but ORU built the lead to 30-24 at halftime, then to 35-26 early in the second half.
A jumper by Emani Gant brought Texas State within 37-34 with 17:10 left in the game. However, Shawn Glover scored off a turnover for ORU with 11:47 left, putting the ORU up to 54-41. ORU held a double-digit lead for the last 9:39 of the game.
Gant, the only Texas State player to score in double figures, finished with 14. ORU’s Obu Emegano made nine of 12 field goal attempts, including four of six from three-point range, to lead all scorers with 27 points. ORU is 2-1.
