The Texas State women’s basketball team went to Austin Wednesday night and lost to Texas in a lopsided result, 96-42.
The Bobcats were within 16-12 with 13:34 left in the first half when Erin Peoples hit a three-pointer. But the Longhorns outscored Texas State two-to-one for the rest of the half and held a 48-28 halftime lead.
Kaylan Martin led the Bobcats with 10 points, followed by Peoples with nine. Nneka Enemkpali led the Longhorns and all scorers with 22 points, while teammates Imani McGee-Stafford and Celina Rodrigo each scored 15 and Chassidy Fussell scored 14.
The Bobcats had a tough night shooting the ball, hitting only 29.6 percent (eight of 27) in the first half and five of 30 (16.7 percent) in the second half. The Longhorns shot 48.6 percent (34 of 70) for the game.
Texas also outrebounded the Bobcats, 58-27.
The Bobcats now are 1-1, while Texas is 2-0.
Texas State will next play Saturday at Texas Christian (7 p.m.).
