The Texas State soccer team is 3-4-1 coming off a weekend during which it played two matches at home — a 2-1 win against Sam Houston on Sept. 13 and a 1-0 loss to Texas-El Paso on Sept. 14.

The Bobcats fell behind Sam Houston early on a goal by the Bearkats’ Tricia Mallory off a corner kick by Madison Blue. But the Bobcats tied it in the 33rd minute, when freshman Clarissa Leon scored on a pass from Sydney Curry, with an additional assist from Gabby Cottee. The game was tied, 1-1, at half, though Texas State outshot Sam Houston, 10-5.

Texas State broke the tie 18 seconds into the second half, when sophomore Lynsey Curry put a shot over the Sam Houston goalkeeper’s head. The Bobcats kept the pressure on for the entire second half, outshooting Sam Houston, 12-3, after intermission.

The next day, the Bobcats found themselves stifled by the UTEP defense, which kept them from getting any shots on goal in the first half and limited them to two shots on goal in the second half. UTEP scored the game’s only goal in the 86th minute when Aleah Davis punched in a breakaway.

The Bobcats will play at Texas on Friday (7 p.m.) in their final non-conference game of the season.
