The Texas State volleyball team lost two of three matches during the weekend at the Golden Hurricane Classic in Tulsa and now is 9-4 for the season.
The Bobcats lost their first match last Friday against Northern Colorado by scores of 25-15, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23. Amari Deardorff had a .522 hitting percentage and 13 kills for the Bobcats.
The next day, the Bobcats started out with a four-set loss to Tulsa (25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17). Texas State’s Alexandra Simms led all players with 17 kills. Deardorff tallied 16 and Ashlee Hilbun pitched in 13 kills on a .600 hitting percentage. Caylin Mahoney gave out 43 assists for 10.8 assists per set while also notching 12 digs and four kills. Sierra Smith led the team with 16 digs while Ali Hubicsak pitched in 12. Simms added eight.
The Bobcats came back later in the day with a three-set win against Arkansas (25-21, 25-18, 25-22). Deardorff paced Texas State with 14 kills and a .393 hitting percentage to help her to an All-Tournament selection, while Simms tallied 12 kills. Mahoney gave out 31 assists with nine digs and four block assists while Hilbun patrolled the net for seven block assists in the match.
The Bobcats will play Texas Tech Tuesday night at Strahan Coliseum (6:30 p.m.) before playing Friday night at Texas-San Antonio.
