Led by Amari Deardorff, the Texas State volleyball team is off to a flying start.
The Sun Belt Conference named Deardorff as its offensive player of the week this week after she averaged 4.18 kills per set and turned in a hitting percentage of .459 as the Bobcats notched their first 4-0 start since 2000 with a sweep of the Delta Zeta Classic at Strahan Coliseum during the weekend. Deardorff finished the Delta Zeta with 46 kills, 22 more than any other teammate.
The Bobcats finished off the Delta Zeta Classic two more wins Saturday, beating Quinnipiac 25-11, 25-10 and 25-22, then beating Houston 25-19, 25-17, 25-19. Deardorff especially shined in the easy win against Quinnipiac, as she finished with a .667 hitting percentage. The Bobcats won 12 of 13 games they played in the Delta Zeta affair.
The Bobcats swept up a lot of the tournament honors. Deardorff was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, Caylin Mahoney was named the Most Valuable Setter and Ashlee Hilbun was named to the all-tournament team.
The Bobcats will play Tuesday night at Sam Houston State. Friday and Saturday, they will participate inthe North Texas Invitational, where they will play against Northwestern State, Utah, Prairie View A&M and North Texas.Email | Print
