A daily rundown of live entertainment in and around San Marcos tonight, compiled by Mercury Scene Editor Hap Mansfield and our content partners at San Marcos Tonight.
Another embarrassment of musical riches faces San Marcos tonight. The Hill Country Gentlemen have honed their craft all summer at a regular Thursday night in-store for Superfly’s Lone Star Music Emporium and will play a full set tonight at the Triple Crown. They are joined by The Shady Rest for a great night of music. Folk Family Revival will heat up the Cheatham Street Warehouse with some hot licks and warm tones. Our pick just might be the old fashioned Honky-Tonk tunes of Roy Heinrich and The Pickups (pictured), though. Heinrich is a Texan who has always had a passion for music. He bought his first musical instrument, a button accordion, from the Sears catalog with money he got picking cotton at fourteen years old. He formed Houston’s first punk-rock band back in the day. But his true love has always been classic country Honky Tonk and it is there that he thrives. His songs are lively, boot-scootin’ and often touching, Heinrich and his band The Pickups will be at Riley’s Tavern tonight, the perfect setting for these musical jewels.
