The Texas State volleyball team began its season with two impressive victories Friday in the Delta Zeta Classic at Strahan Coliseum.

The Bobcats opened their season with a three-game win against Lamar, turning in scores of 25-10, 25-16, 25-11. Later in the day, the Bobcats needed four games to down Southern Methodist 25-19, 25-19, 26-28 and 25-22.

Amari Deardorff, named to the Sun Belt Conference preseason team, led the Bobcats with 32 kills and a .439 hitting percentage over the two matches. Caylin Mahoney added 62 assists during the day.

During the Lamar match, the Bobcats had a .381 hitting percentage, starting with .320 in the first game, then improving to .400 in the second and .412 in the third. earedorff had 12 kills, while Mahoney had 22 assists and 10 digs.

Deardorff and Mahoney also led the way against Southern Methodist. Deardorff had 20 kills, while Mahoney had 40 assists and 12 digs.

The Bobcats now are 2-0 with matches coming up in the Delta Zeta Classic Saturday against Quinnipiac at noon and Houston at 6:30 p.m.
