Recently predicted to finish fourth in the Sun Belt Conference by the league’s coaches, the Texas State volleyball team will begin its regular season Friday with the Delta Zeta Classic at Strahan Coliseum.
The Bobcats will play Southern Methodist Friday at 6:30 p.m., followed by games Saturday against Quinnipiac (noon) and Houston (6:30 p.m.)
The Sun Belt coaches poll awarded all ten of their first-place votes to Western Kentucky, giving the Hilltoppers 100 points. Arkansas-Little Rock and Troy tied for second with 77 points. Texas State and Arkansas State tied for fourth with 64 points apiece. The remaining five teams are, in order, Texas-Arlington (47 points), Louisiana-Lafayette (46 points), South Alabama (39 points), Georgia State (24 points) and Louisiana-Monroe (13 points).
Amari Deardorff was the only Texas State player named to the preseason first team.
Western Kentucky dominated the preseason team. Ashley Potts was named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Melanie Stutsman taking home Preseason Setter of the Year.
The Bobcats will begin their conference season on Sept. 27 against Louisiana-Lafyette.Email | Print
