Texas State’s volleyball team began practice Saturday. Kind of.
The Bobcats have actually been together during the entire second summer session of classes, enabling the players to work informally during open gym sessions. So, even though the Bobcats have ten newcomers on their team, they’ve gotten a head start on practice.
“Our starting point is six weeks ahead of where we used to start,” Texas State associate head coach Tracy Smith said. “Now we’re able to start with volleyball and let them go immediately on day one. We’re just going to get so much farther this season because of where we’re starting now.”
Said senior middle blocer Ashlee Hilbun, “Our first practice was the best that it’s been in a long time. It’s real exciting to see where we’re going to get.”
The Bobcats will open their season at the end of August in the Delta Zeta Classic to be played at Strahan Coliseum. The Bobcats will play Lamar at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 30, then Southern Methodist at 6:30 p.m. that same day. On Aug. 31, the Bobcats will play Quinnipiac at noon, then Houston at 6:30 p.m.
“The freshmen aren’t playing like freshmen, and it’s given us great depth at some positions,” Smith said. “They’ve done a good job this summer getting ready.”Email | Print
