STAFF REPORT
Hays County officials are investigating a matter of a child found floating, apparently unconscious, in a swimming pool Monday in Kyle.
Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies responded to a report of a child floating in the pool at 5 p.m. on 200 block of Huber Drive. The one-year-old had wandered away from supervision.
The child recovered on the scene, following rescue procedures, and was transported by San Marcos/Hays County EMS units to Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin.
No charges have been filed, but the matter is under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Child Protective Services.
The HCSO said it had no further information available.
So glad this baby survived. It could have been much worse. We have friends who suffered the unimaginable loss of their 3 year old last week when he wandered outside during the wee hours while everyone was sleeping and fell into the family pool. Devastating. I hope that all involved in the care of the child in this story will take the necessary precautions to prevent a repeat of what could have been a horrific tragedy. Thank God they found him/her in time.
When my grandmother had an in-home day care, it was required that the pool had certain gates and locks on it. This should be a requirement for anyone with small children.
