greater san marcos partnership 350Texas State’s Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) Park and its role in the innovation economy will be the topic of a half-day symposium being put on by the park and the Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP).

The symposium will take place on Sept. 5, 2013, 8 a.m.-1:15 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Spa & Conference Center in San Marcos.

Congressman Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio) will give a keynote address and participate in two panel discussions. Other speakers will include Hays County Commissioner Will Conley, San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero, and Texas State President Denise Trauth. Tours of STAR One will begin following the forum. Those interested can sign-up for a tour when they register for the event.

In addition, the GSMP will introduce the Burdick Award, named after Thermon Chairman and Founder Dick Burdick. Each year, the award will recognize a local technology company, which has achieved success through innovation and leadership. The inaugural award will be presented to Thermon. Accepting the award on behalf of Thermon will be award namesake and company founder Dick Burdick, along with Rodney Bingham, President and CEO.

STAR Park is a 38-acre research park anchored by STAR One, a new technology accelerator for start up and early stage companies. Event sponsors say attendees will hear from leading researchers on collaborations already underway, as well as from leading local technology companies on new developments between technology, research and industry and the role the STAR Park can play in future economic development.

Tickets for the STAR Park Forum cost $50 until Aug. 9, and include breakfast and lunch. After Aug. 9, tickets will cost $75.
