Texas State has established a memorial scholarship fund in honor of its late President Emeritus Robert L. Hardesty.
Hardesty, who served as the seventh president of Texas State from 1981 to 1988, died on July 8 at the age of 82.

“Bob Hardesty was a vital link to our past, having served on the staff of our most famous alumnus, President Lyndon Johnson,” Texas State President Denise Trauth said. “But he also helped guide us to our future by moving Texas State to greater levels of prestige within the higher education community. Like President Johnson, whom he admired so much, Bob returned to campus frequently for special events. He remained our friend, and we will miss him dearly.”
