Today is “Media Day” in the Sun Belt Conference, with reporters and football people from around the league meeting at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Texas State head coach Dennis Franchione and senior wide receiver Isaiah Battle are representing the Bobcats at the event.
Texas State is among eight teams competing for the Sun Belt football championship in 2013. The other teams include returning schools Arkansas State, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama and Troy along with another new member this season, Georgia State. In addition, future members Idaho, New Mexico State, Appalachian State and Georgia Southern are attending the Sun Belt Conference media day.
Texas State kicks off its 2013 schedule with a road game at Southern Miss on Aug. 31, before playing its first home game against Prairie View A&M on Sept. 7. The Bobcats will play their first Sun Belt game on Oct. 5 at Louisiana-Lafayette, and their first Sun Belt home game on Oct. 12 against Louisiana-Monroe.
In addition to Franchione, other coaches speaking today include Arkansas State’s Bryan Harsin, Georgia State head coach Trent Miles, Louisiana head coach Mark Hudspeth, ULM’s Todd Berry, Joey Jones of South Alabama, Larry Blakeney of Troy and Bobby Petrino of Western Kentucky. In addition, coaches from future Sun Belt Conference schools include Doug Martin of New Mexico State, Paul Petrino of Idaho, Scott Satterfield of Appalachian State, Jeff Monkin of Georgia Southern.
