Texas State had two baseball players selected by major league clubs in last week’s amateur draft. In addition, the Bobcats had two signees drafted.

Drafted from the Bobcats were starting pitcher Kyle Finnegan and reliever Donnie Hart. The Oakland Athletics selected Finnegan in the sixth round (19tst overall pick). Hart was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 27th round (819th pick overall).

Finnegan finished the 2013 season 5-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 19 appearances. He finished tenth in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) with 64 strikeouts.

Hart began the season on a streak of 25 consecutive appearances (21.1 innings) without giving up an earned run. He finished the season with a 2.13 earned run average and struck out 34 batters in 41 appearances, a Texas State school record and the WAC’s leading mark this season. Opponents hit .209 against him, lowest on the team.

The Bobcats now have had 32 players drafted since Ty Harrington took over the program in 2000. They have had players selected in the first ten rounds for five straight years, beginning with Paul Goldschmidt and Ben Theriot in 2009.

Two Texas State signees also were drafted. Jacob Rhame, a right-handed pitcher, has been set to transfer to the Bobcats from Grayson College, but the Los Angeles Dodgers selected him in the sixth round. Tyler Vail, who was set to transfer to Texas State from Temple, was the 613th overall selection (20th round) by the Atlanta Braves.
