Texas State will have three athletes in the NCAA Track and Field Final Championships to be held on the campus of Oregon in Eugene, OR, June 5-8.

At last weekend’s West Regional, Texas State senior Timothy Young qualified for the national finals in the 110-meter hurdles while senior Kelsey Titzman qualified in the shot put. Senior heptathlete Danessa Lyssy qualified for those finals through her performance in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) meet.

Young advanced to the regional quarterfinals in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash, but the hurdles proved to be his event. He finished 10th in the first round with a time of 14.14 but improved a great deal to lower his time to 13.86 and finish 11th in the quarterfinals for the right to advance to the final championships. The top 12 qualify.

Titzman was equally impressive, actually winning her preliminary group. However, of all the west region competitors, Titzman finished eighth overall with a throw of 16.56 meters. As the final championships accept the top 12, Titzman was in with plenty of room to spare.
