EDITOR:
I have cast my vote for Dr. Michelle Hamilton to become the next District 5 SMCISD Board Trustee. I was impressed with her résumé of education and experience which qualify her to serve the children and constituents of the district.
In speaking with Michelle, I found simple qualities which motivated me to support her candidacy: She is a parent of a child currently enrolled in elementary; she has a wealth of educational knowledge; she was not threatened by my ideas and invited dialog; she is a fellow citizen concerned about educational quality; she understands the “macro” policy role of being a trustee; and she has a pragmatic understanding of public debt and return on investment.
I did not find a politician — someone who simply wants to be elected, someone who deflects direct and candid conversation, someone who only represents a narrow agenda. She is also not an “academician” whose lofty ideas have little practical application to public education.
Our children and their educators deserve the best that we can deliver. I ask that you support her election and thus continue the momentum of improvement SMCISD has experienced.
