The Texas Ski Ranch, 6700 North Ih 35, in New Braunfels, will host the 2013 Wake and Music festival, also known as Cablestock, their 11th annual festival featuring cable wakeboarding May 3-5. It is the longest running cable wakeboard competition in the U.S. The event features music, beaches, pretty girls, incredible world-class athletes and music.
Wakeboarding, a cross between water skiing, snow boarding and surfing, involves a dramatic combination of skills. Cable wakeboarding is a system with an overhead cable which allows several wakeboarders to be pulled without the need for a boat. The skier then skis in the wake of a separate boat or without the boat, depending on the event. The Texas Ski Ranch is one of the few cable wakeboarding parks in the U.S. The system is very popular in Europe.
Cablestock will feature a variety of pro and amateur wakeboarders in competitve events. The music stage will include DJ Pool Boy (Joey Bradley), Collin Gee and Zeale on Friday and Curren$y, Action Bronson, Driicky Graham and more. A laser light show is also planned for Friday. Cablestock will introduce a new hybrid event that includes boat and cable.
Other events include a bikini contest with prizes amounting to $1000. Teddy Chang, the Red Bull Thre3 Style University Winner from Texas State will make an appearance on Saturday night. A variety of skate board and wakeskate demos are planned and the Texas State Therapeutic Recreation department will host an adaptive skate clinic.
If you think that fruit loops are a kind of cereal, Moby Dick is just a classic novel and Pete Rose is only a ball player, you will thrill to what those terms mean to a wakeboarder. And wait until you see a heelside backroll.
Admission to Cablestock is free with the exception of the Saturday night concert. For more details and a schedule of events visit tsrcablestock.com/ A promotional video showing the sport and featured musicians is here: //vimeo.com/64691342
