Splitting two matches on a weekend road trip to Idaho, the Texas State women’s tennis team now is 9-8 overall and 4-5 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
The Bobcats defeated Lewis & Clark State College in Lewiston, ID, Saturay, then lost to Idaho, 4-3, in Lewiston on Sunday.
In each match, the Bobcats captured the team point in doubles by winning two of three.
Bobcats Bérénice Van den Bergh, Rachel Baldtree, Katy Collins and Jessica Kahts all were double winners against Lewis & Clark. Van den Bergh and Baldtree teamed up to defeat Deanri Human and Florencia Martina, 8-2, in doubles. Then, VandenBergh defeated Human, 6-3, 6-2, and Baldtree defeated Bryn Oliveira, 6-0, 6-1, in singles. Collins and Kahts defeated Rye Hewitt and Oliveira in doubles, 8-6, then Collins beat Martina, 6-4, 6-2, in singles and Kahts beat Dorothy Chong, 6-3, 6-2, in singles. Mariana Perez also won in singles for Texas State.
Perez and Melissa Hadad were double winners for the Bobcats against Idaho. The duo combined to defeat Constance Alexander and Belen Barcenilla, 8-4, in doubles. Then, Hadad beat Almudena Sanz, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2, and Perez beat Sophie Vickers, 6-2, 7-6, in singles. Van den Bergh and Collins also won their doubes match against Idaho.
The Bobcats will go at it again Friday against McMurry at the Bobcat Tennis Complex (2 p.m.).Email | Print
