The Hill Country Jazz Bones were named winners of the 2013 Eastern Trombone Workshop’s National Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition and runner-up for the International Trombone Association’s Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition.

The Hill Country Jazz Bones are one of two five-part trombone groups at Texas State founded and directed by Martin McCain, both of which serve as a subset of the Trombone Choir program through the School of Music. The other ensemble is the Texas State Jazz Bones.

Since their inception in 2010, the Texas State University jazz trombone ensembles have achieved a lengthy list of local, national and international accolades, representing the only university in the state that boasts two jazz trombone ensembles.

The jazz ensembles have performed at the 2011 Big 12 Trombone Conference, the 2012 Texas Music Educators Association Convention and at private ceremonies for groups such as the Texas State Board of Regents.

Both jazz trombone ensembles and the Trombone Choir have been invited to perform at the 2013 International Trombone Festival.
