Texas State senior Danessa Lyssy earned the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Athlete of the Week award after winning the heptathlon last weekend at the Bobcat Invitational.

The senior from Floresville totaled 5,206 points in the event. That total tops the WAC so far this season and ranks 13th in the nation.

As the heptathlon is a number of events, she also put up conference ranking numbers in multiple events. Lyssy ranks ninth in the WAC in shot put (13.27 meters, 43-6.5) and javelin (36.11 meters, 118-6.0). Her high jump of 1.65 meters (5-5.00) puts her sixth in the conference.

Lyssy will look to lead her team at the Texas State Invitational in San Marcos this weekend.
