The Texas State baseball team almost pulled off a big win at Rice Monday night, but the Owls caught up at the end, then posted a 4-3 win in 12 innings.

The Bobcats now are 12-16 overall, while No. 20 Rice is 21-10.

Texas State’s game at home against Prairie View A&M was cancelled Tuesday because of rain. The game has been rescheduled for May 8.

The Bobcats took a 3-2 lead at Rice in the third inning with a three-run double by Garrett Mattlage. But Rice tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, when Bobcat reliever Hunter Lemke walked Skyler Ewing with the bases loaded.

Rice won the game in the bottom of the 12th, when Christian Stringer singled through the middle, driving in Michael Ratteree with two out.

The Bobcats will play three this weekend at Sacramento State as they pick up their Western Athletic Conference (WAC) schedule.
