The Texas State softball team went to college station for a meeting with No. 9 Texas A&M Tuesday night, and the result was not unexpected.

A&M trounced the Bobcats, 9-1, in five innings. The Aggies, who entered the game on a three-game losing streak, improved to 26-6, while the Bobcats dropped to 5-26.

A two-out, two-run homer by Texas A&M’s Amber Garza in the second inning gave the Aggies a 2-0 lead to start the game. The Bobcats responded with a run in their half of the third inning, when Coralee Ramirez walked and later crossed on a single by Haley Lemons.

The Aggies came right back with six runs in their half of the third inning, keyed by a second homer by Garza, a grand slam. Another A&M run in the fourth inning brought the run rule into effect, ending the game.

Four different Bobcats reached with hits, including Anna Hernandez, who extended her hitting streak to four games.

The Bobcats will play at Seattle this weekend for a three-game series in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), including a double-header Friday and a single game on Saturday.
