Health Promotion Services invites you to attend this ground-breaking presentation by internationally recognized author, educator, & filmmaker Jackson Katz, PhD.

In this multimedia lecture, Jackson Katz discusses some of the cultural factors that help to define dominant definitions of manhood, such as media and sports culture. He focuses on key dynamics in male peer cultures that discourage “good guys” from challenging prevailing social norms about what constitutes “manly” attitudes or behavior, even when they are uncomfortable with them or disapprove. Dr. Katz also provides a basic overview of the “bystander approach” to gender violence and bullying prevention, a widely popular violence prevention strategy of which he is one of the original architects.
