Joel Wright scored 26 points with nine rebounds as Texas State won its Western Athletic Conference Tournament opener.
Winning its first ever game in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament, the Texas State men’s basketball team will take another try today (2:30 p.m.) in the quarterfinal round in Las Vegas.
The Bobcats defeated Seattle, 68-56, in Tuesday’s first round game. The win improved Texas State’s record to 11-21. The Bobcats play Denver (21-8) today.
Texas State scored the first 10 points against Seattle and held a 36-28 halftime lead. Seattle made the halftime adjustments and scored the first eight points of the second half to tie the game at 36-36. However, the Bobcats quickly rebuilt the lead to eight at 47-39 and kept it about there for the duration.
The Bobcats made half of their field goal attempts (22 of 44), compared with 33.9 percent (19 of 56) for Seattle.
Joel Wright led the way for Texas State with 26 points and nine rebounds.
Deshaun Sunderhaus led Seattle with 15 points. Seattle ends its season at 8-21.Email | Print
