Texas State will hold readings this evening with two award-winning Dominican authors on the eve of Dominican Independence Day.
New York City-based Rubén Sánchez Féliz and Houston-based René Rodríguez Soriano will read, starting at 6:30 p.m., in the Wittliff Collections located on the seventh floor of the Alkek Library on campus. The event is free and open to the public. Music and refreshments will be provided.
Soriano is a widely published international author. He has received numerous awards, including the National Award for Short Stories in 1996 for “Casa de Teatro” and the National Award for Short Stories in 1997 for “José Ramón López de la Secretaría de Educación Bellas Artes y Cultos de República Dominicana.” He currently lives in Kingwood.
Feliz is an educator whose poems, essays, and fiction have been widely published. His literary awards include Premio Letras de Ultramar (2010) and Premio de Novela Federico García Godoy (2010). He earned both his undergraduate degree (Pedagogy, summa cum laude) and MFA from New York University.
