Texas State senior Matt Staff went double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds Saturday in the Bobcats’ 74-61 win at Lamar (Texas State sports information photo).


Playing on the road against a Lamar team that now is 3-24, the Texas State men’s basketball team had no trouble Saturday in a 74-61 victory.

Texas State doubled the score on Lamar, 26-13, nine minutes into the game and held a 29-29 halftime lead. Lamar never cut into that Texas State advantage.

The Bobcats now are 8-19 overall. They return to action in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Thursday at Strahan Coliseum against Seattle.

Joel Wright led the Bobcats against Lamar, scoring 27 points with seven rebounds and six assists. Matt Staff turned in his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 12 points with 11 rebounds. Deonte Jones scored 19 points for Texas State. Amos Wilson led Lamar with 19 points.
