It’s the second day of the Seventh Annual SURGE! Film Festival hosted by Heirloom Blooms and there are loads of fascinating films to watch and folks to meet. There will be script readings and a chance to make your own stop-motion animation. The event is scheduled to go from 1-8 p.m.
The seventh annual Social Uprising and Grassroots Encouragement! (SURGE!) Film Festival being held on Feb 19 and 20 at Heirloom Blooms in San Marcos. Films featured include “Viva Viva” a documentary about punks living in São Paolo, Brazil, “Cartography of Loneliness” about widows in India, Nepal, and Afghanistan, “Changing Lives in the Mississippi Delta” about a youth afterschool program in Greenville, Mississippi, and “Dalai Mongol”, which takes viewers on a dreamlike journey through the enchanted landscapes of Mongolia.
SURGE! also includes a panel on social justice and the independent film maker and screen writer, a garden dedication, script readings with local actors and a chance for attendees to make stop motion animations on the Edge of Imagination Station.
Actor Howard Lawrence, whose film credits include Tron, Uprising, The Good Wife, and Smallville, will join fellow actors in a reading of the script of “Decay.” The screenplay of “Decay” is described as a “Zombie social justice film.”
The SURGE! Film Festival is free and open to the public. The festival is hosted by Heirloom Blooms, 900 FM 32 #A, San Marcos, from 1-8 p.m. on both days.Free DVDs of selected films will be given while supplies last.
