The Texas State softball team took it on the chin at the at the University of Houston Tournament to open the season last weekend, losing all five of their games.
The Bobcats lost three games to Houston by scores of 3-1, 7-5 and 7-0. They also lost, 3-1, to Iowa and, 7-3, to Lipscomb.
All three Texas State pitchers — Rayn House, Anne Marie Taylor and Ashley Wright — struggled during the tournament. House came out of it with a 5.07 ERA in 9 2/3 innings, Taylor pitched to a 6.52 ERA in 9 2/3 innings and Wright tossed a 7.18 ERA in 12 2/3 innings.
The leading Bobcat hitters were Jordan Masek and Coralee Ramirez. Masek batted .417 (five for 12) with a homer, two RBI and a .667 slugging percentage. Ramirez batted .286 (four for 14) with two homers, five RBI and a .714 slugging percentage.
The Bobcats are up for four more games, Saturday and Sunday, in the 27th annual Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, LA. The Bobcats will play Louisiana-Lafayette and Mississippi Valley State on Saturday and again against those same two teams on Sunday.Email | Print
