mardi gras 2 - mercury

MERCURY PHOTOS by RAFAEL MARQUEZ

A “small but vociferous” crowd, in the words of one reveler, turned out Saturday morning for the first Krewe of Okeanos Mardi Gras parade down Belvin Street. Inspired by a New Orleans club of the same name, the krewe hopes to nurture celebration of the Carnival season in San Marcos, which isn’t exactly known for its indulgence of the outrageous and colorful run-up to Lent. Fat Tuesday is tomorrow.

Thank you for covering this event. Looking forward to seeing the Mercury next year at all the events. And thanks to all who not only participated in the parade but those who came out and enjoyed it from the sidewalks. See y’all next year.

Thanks for the coverage of the parade and we hope everyone had a great time. One correction to note, the color guard is from the Texas State Air Force ROTC, not San Marcos High.
