The San Marcos High School girls basketball team lost its tiebreaker game at Smithson Valley Saturday afternoon, and now the young team is left to try it again next year.

The Rattlers lost, 54-41, in a game to determine which of the two teams that tied for fourth place in District 25-5A would go to the playoffs. Smithson Valley opened up a 34-22 halftime lead and never looked back.

The Rattlers, 3-7 in the district, end their season with a 9-24 record. Smithson Valley is 3-7 and 14-21 as it heads to the playoffs.

Baylee Nichols led Smithson Valley with 21 points, followed by Liz Cathcart with 18 points.
