After winning squeakers throughout the District 25-5A season, the San Marcos High School basketball team lost a squeaker Friday night, falling, 65-62, to San Antonio Wagner at home.

The loss dropped San Marcos out of a three-way tie for first place. The Rattlers fell to 6-3 in the district and 17-14 overall. Wagner (7-2, 21-11) remained in a first-place tie with Converse Judson (7-2, 26-7).

The Rattlers had to battle hard in the second half to make the game close. Wagner took a 41-25 halftime lead. The Rattlers cut it to 51-44 through three quarters, but weren’t able to prevail in the end.

Alex Frye and Josh Coleman each scored 14 points for the Rattlers, followed by Michael Hicks with 13. Wagner’s Tyler Collins led all scorers with 20 points.

The Rattlers, who already have clinched a playoff berth, will finish their regular season Tuesday night at New Braunfels Canyon (7 p.m.).
