Texas State’s men’s basketball team suffered its toughest loss of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) season Thursday night, shooting only 22.6 percent in a 75-50 drubbing at Texas-Arlington (UTA).

The Bobcats made only 12 of 53 field goal attempts, including a dismal three of 24 (12.5 percent) in the second half. The Bobcats trailed only 31-26 at halftime, but UTA expanded its lead throughout the second half.

UTA didn’t shoot especially well either, making only 39 percent (23 of 59). However, the Mavericks almost stayed even with Texas State on their offensive board, taking 16 of 37 such rebounds to salve the effects of their shooting.

Kevin Butler of UTA led all scorers with 21 points. Reid Koenen led Texas State with 12 points.

The Bobcats now are 3-9 in the WAC and 7-17 overall. UTA is 6-5 and 11-9.

Texas State plays its next game Saturday at Louisiana Tech (7 p.m.).
