The Bobcats received five of eight first-place votes and a total of 43 voting points, nudging out San Jose State, which received 42 total voting points and two first-place votes. The other first-place vote went to New Mexico State, which finished third overall with 39 points.
Texas State returns all of its starters from last year’s team, which finished 39-17 overall and 18-2 in the Southland Conference.
Texas State seniors Anna Hernandez and Anne Marie Taylor both were named to the WAC preseason team. Hernandez, a second baseman from Buda, batted .304 last season, leading the Bobcats in slugging (.404) and on-base percentage (.381). Taylor, a pitcher, finished 17-8 with a 1.71 ERA.
