Texas State junior forward Joel Wright was named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday for his incredible performances in two Bobcat road wins last week.
In the two games, Wright averaged 28.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, four steals and 2.5 assists. Included was a career-high 37 points in a 78-73 win at Idaho on Jan. 24. Two days later, Wright scored 19 points with nine rebounds in an 86-83 win at Seattle.
For the season, Wright leads the Bobcats with averages of 17.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He is third on the team in assists (40) and steals (27). In addition, he has made one-third of the team’s trips to the free-throw line (142), where he has been successful 78.9 percent of the time.
The Bobcats, who are on a three-game winning streak, are 3-6 in the WAC and 7-14 overall. They return home from a three-game road trip Thursday to play New Mexico State (7 p.m.).Email | Print
