SUBMITTED REPORT

County, city, school district and other local property taxes are due on Jan. 31 with late penalties kicking in Feb. 1.

“Even if you can’t pay your entire bill, try to pay as much as you can by Jan. 31. The penalty and interest increase each month, but with a partial payment you will be reducing the amount that accrues the penalty and interest,” Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector Luanne Caraway said.

Taxes can be paid at any of four tax office in the county — Buda, Dripping Springs, Kyle and San Marcos. The offices are opened 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except the Kyle office is closed between 12:30 and 1:30 daily and the Dripping Springs office is closed from 12:30 to 1:30 on Fridays. Residents can also pay online here.

Payments can be mailed to the main tax office at 712 S. Stagecoach Trail in San Marcos. Mailed payments must be postmarked by Jan. 31.
