Halfway through the District 25-5A boys basketball season, San Marcos is holding the most cards for the district championship.
The Rattlers are tied with Converse Judson for first place at 4-1 after a 52-49 home court win Friday night against New Braunfels Canyon. However, the Rattlers hold the tiebreaker at the moment due to their 34-33 win at home against Judson on Jan. 18. The Rattlers will play at Judson on Feb. 5.
Despite winning four of their five district games and being the first-place team the Rattlers actually have been outscored by a cumulative 10 points in their district games. They have mastered the tight victory. Their four district wins have come by a total of nine points, and none of the wins have been by more than three points. Offsetting all that is a 19-point loss Tuesday night at San Antonio Wagner, which fell to 3-2 in the league Friday with a 69-68 loss at Smithson Valley.
Though the largest San Marcos lead at any quarter break Friday night was 10-6 at the first, they did lead at every quarter break.
Brandon Coleman led San Marcos Friday with 13 points, followed by 10 points for Josh Coleman. Cameron Ross scored 13 points to lead Canyon.
