The women’s basketball team at Texas State lost it’s IH-35 rivalry game, 56-46, Saturday against Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) at Strahan Coliseum.
The Bobcats held a 14-10 lead nine minutes into the game, but UTSA rallied for a 24-19 halftime advantage, led by six points from Whitney Wright, and led for the rest of the game. The Roadrunners extended their lead to 14 points in the middle of the second half before the Bobcats came back to narrow the margin 47-41 with two free throws by Diamond Ford with 3:25 left.
UTSA shot only 36.9 percent (24 of 65) from the floor. But the Bobcats were even less effective, shooting only 30 percent (15 of 50).
Ford led all scorers with 17 points. Wright led UTSA with 15 points.
Texas State now is 1-6 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and 7-10 overall. UTSA is 4-3 and 10-8.
The Bobcats will play their next game against Idaho Thursday at Strahan Coliseum (6:30 p.m.). The Vandals are 4-3 and 7-11. The Bobcats also will play at home Saturday against Seattle (2 p.m.). Seattle leads the WAC at 7-0 and 10-6.
