San Marcos and Converse Judson are the early leaders in District 25-5A boys basketball after each won Tuesday night to reach 2-0.
And — what to you know? — they play 7 p.m. Friday night at Judson.
The Rattlers took an early lead and weathered a second-half rally on the road Tuesday night for a 62-59 win at New Braunfels. The Rattlers now are 12-11 overall. is 0-2 in the district and 8-17 overall.
San Marcos took a 16-7 lead at the end of one quarter and held a 32-22 advantage at halftime. The Unicorns rallied to within 42-41 through three quarters and he Rattlers held on through the last eight minutes.
Brandon Coleman scored 17 points with four rebounds for the Rattlers, while Alex Frye added 15 points and seven rebounds. Aaron Gettys for New Braunfels led all scorers with 21 points. R.J. Nunez scored 16 points with 11 rebounds for the Unicorns.
New Braunfels outrebounded the Rattlers, 36-20. However, San Marcos made 19 of 32 free throw attempts, while New Braunfels made 10 of 18.
Judson, 19-8 overall, is ranked sixth in the San Antonio area by the San Antonio Express-News.
