Sophomores Madison Miles and Bailey Hill each scored 13 points for the San Marcos High School girls basketball team in its District 25-5A opener last Friday night. But the rest of the team combined for only 16 points and the Rattlers fell, 50-42, at Smithson Valley.
The story of the game was that neither team produced offensively for the first half of it, then, in the second half, only one team produced offensively. That would have been Smithson Valley, which scored 15 in the third quarter and 17 in the fourth to win going away.
The Rattlers held a 21-18 lead at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the Rattlers trailed, 33-31.
San Marcos shot 29 percent (16 of 55) from the floor.
The Rattlers now are 6-20 overall and 0-1 in the district. They have lost four straight and eight of their last nine. Next, the Rattlers play New Braunfels (0-1, 5-13) Tuesday night at home.Email | Print
