A 17-0 run in the middle of the first half by visiting Texas-Arlington (UTA) killed the Texas State men’s basketball team Saturday at Strahan Coliseum.
The Bobcats lost, 91-74, for their ninth straight defeat. The Bobcats are 0-6 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and 4-14 overall. UTA is 3-2 and 8-6
The Bobcats were down only 21-17 when UTA went on its tear starting with 12:40 remaining. With 6:36 left, the Bobcats trailed, 38-17. Five different players scored for UTA during that run.
The Bobcats brought themselves back within 44-34 at half. Then, Deonte Jones went off for the Bobcats, making three three-point shots and a layup in the first five minutes of the second half as Texas State came to within 54-50 with 15:31 left in the game.
But the Bobcats couldn’t get all the way up that hill and UTA re-asserted its control over the game. The Mavericks had their lead back up to 88-67 with 4:44 left.
Joel Wright led the Bobcats and all scorers with 24 points. Jones added 21 points for Texas State.
