The San Marcos High School boys basketball team lost its final tuneup before the District 25-5A season Monday night, dropping a 55-52 decision to Steele at home.

The Rattlers fell to 10-11 overall as they get set for their district opener Friday night at home against Smithson Valley (7 p.m.).

The Rattlers fell behind, 28-21, at halftime after a Steele surge in the second quarter. But San Marcos matched that surge in the third period, outscoring the Knights, 15-8, during the period and tied the game, 36-36, going to the final minutes.

Steele just had a little more in the end, though, and escaped with the three-point victory. Steele is 14-8 overall.

Brandon Coleman led the Rattlers and all scorers with 19 points. Other Rattlers in double figures were Alex Frye with 11 points and Josh Coleman with 10. Austin Henry led the Knights with 15 points.
